TWO freshman sires got off the mark on Sunday.

Mickley Stud's high-class sprinter Heeraat (by Dark Angel) got off the mark as a sire when the Mick Channon-trained Cotubanama won the conditions race over five furlongs at Salisbury.

Channon also bred and owns the bay, who was third at Newmarket on her debut. She is out of Saona Island (by Bahamian Bounty) and her dam is an unraced full-sister to dual sprint winner Hot Pursuits.

Third dam Ivory Bride (by Domynsky) won the Listed Rose Bowl Stakes at Newbury as a two-year-old and is the dam of the listed scorers Cabcharge Striker (by Rambo Dancer) and Funwair Wane (by Unfuwain) plus the prolific Parkside Pursuit (by Pursuit Of Love), and that trio won 33 races between them.

Top-class miler Toronado (by High Chaparral), who stands at Haras de Bouquetot in France, got his first winner when Baylagan made a winning debut over five and a half furlongs at Le Lion d'Angers.

The Simone Brogi-trained colt is out of Al Waghaa (by Muhtathir), who is a full-sister to stakes-placed multiple winner Maroon Machine and a half-sister to Place Vendome (by Dr Fong), the stakes-placed dam of classic-winning miler and promising Haras de Bouquetot stallion Style Vendome (by Anabaa).
