THE Irish Field is delighted to have been confirmed as an exhibitor at the Irish Farmers Journal and open eir Agri Careers Fair which takes place on Thursday, March 3rd in the RDS. The event is open to all employers in the agri-sector and those searching for employment opportunities in this area. This will be a fantastic opportunity for us to promote upcoming internship opportunities within the business. You can register for free to attend the event by clicking here.

The Irish Field is Ireland's only newspaper dedicated to racing and equestrian sports. Being part of The Irish Field will place you in a diverse and fast-paced work environment. You will be part of a team whose passion is to provide the greater equine industry with up-to-date information on all aspects of equestrian sport and industry news.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to be involved in all areas of the business including, editorial, commercial, advertising and marketing. Leanne O'Sullivan and Judith Faherty recently joined The Irish Field through internships and here's what they have to say about their experience:

Judith Faherty: "Since joining The Irish Field as an intern in January, I have had the opportunity to work in a number of different areas, including commercial, marketing and editorial. I really enjoy being part of such a close-knit team and learning from some of the best in the industry. As a journalism graduate, I enjoy having the chance to write articles and see the paper being produced. I am also helping with digital media, and have introduced a weekly promotional video to our online platforms. Working within The Irish Field has given me the chance to increase my knowledge of the thoroughbred and sport horse industry by attending industry events and building up contacts, all of which I am thoroughly enjoying."

Leanne O'Sullivan: "I thoroughly enjoy being responsible for producing Horse Sense each week. I have an opportunity to cover topics I am interested in and I love working with the production team to design the pages and make them interesting for people to read. As we are a relatively small team there is the opportunity to be involved in many different areas of business. I have learnt a lot about digital marketing and public relations."

There are a wide range of opportunities within The Irish Field and not all require employees to be based at our head office in Dublin. We have many columnists and event staff who work for the paper throughout the year.

William Kennedy, a UCD undergraduate, writes College Corner, while graduates Martin Rice and Tara Armstrong attend a number of industry events throughout the year on behalf of The Irish Field.

When asked about his time working with The Irish Field, Martin said: "I enjoyed attending different industry events on behalf of the paper. Though not in the office I felt I was part of the team and any feedback I gave was taken on board."

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES

A number of other employers within the equine industry will also be attending the Agri Careers Fair. Horse Racing Ireland will be launching its 2016 student internship programme on the day. Now in its third year, the programme offers five internships for the summer of 2016. The internships will begin at the end of May and will run for 10-12 weeks. One of the internships will be in the HRI head office in Newbridge, Co Kildare, while the other four will be in each of the HRI racecourses: Fairyhouse, Navan, Leopardstown and Tipperary.

The programme is open to students in any year of any course, though of course students with an interest in horse racing and the promotion of racing will be at an advantage.

Teagasc, the national body responsible for research, training and advice for the agri-food industry in Ireland will also be in attendance.

Agri Careers is a wonderful opportunity to meet with future employers and to get career advice. We look forward to seeing you at the event.
