MAGNA Grecia made a very solid start to his stallion career with his first runners last year. His dozen individual winners have already grown substantially, with the addition of five new members in 2024, and his prospects for the year ahead look bright.

His first-crop winners are headed by Myconian, a dual winner at up to five furlongs for Amy Murphy, including the Listed Prix Yacowlef at Deauville, while one of his sons, Thekingofmyheart, was a winner in Germany for Mario Hofer, and finished runner-up in the Listed Junioren Preis.

The Karl Burke-trained Indication Spirit won three of her five starts, Mini Magna and Loaded Gun are dual winners, while he has also had winners trained by John and Thady Gosden, Ed and Simon Crisford, Ed Dunlop. Jean-Claude Rouget, David O’Meara and Michael Halford and Tracy Collins.

Being a son of Invincible Spirit is also a big plus for Magna Grecia, and that sire’s son are making waves all over the world. One only has to cite Kingman in Europe and I Am Invincible down under, and that would be enough, but many other of his sons are also Group 1 sires, a list that is sure to grow and grow.

As if all of that was not enough, Magna Grecia is joined at stud by his half-brother, the brilliant dual classic winner and Horse of the Year, St Mark’s Basilica. He is a son of Siyouni (Pivotal). Both won a Group 1 at two, and both won a mile classic at three.

Magna Grecia made a winning debut over seven furlongs at Naas two weeks before failing narrowly to Persian King in the Group 3 Autumn Stakes at Newmarket. A fortnight later, he beat Phoenix Of Spain by a head when winning the Group 1 Vertem Futurity Trophy Stakes at Doncaster.

St Mark’s Basilica landed the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes and got his two classic wins in France, whereas Magna Grecia went to Newmarket and stormed clear to beat King Of Change by two and a half lengths in the 2000 Guineas. The runner-up went on to land the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, fourth-placed Madhmoon became a Derby-placed pattern winner, while sprint ace Ten Sovereigns was fifth. They are all stallions too, the last-named another Coolmore horse.

Magna Grecia is out of the Group 3 Silver Flash Stakes winner Cabaret (Galileo), a half-sister to Group 3 Solario Stakes victor Drumfire (Danehill Dancer) and Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes runner-up Ho Choi (Pivotal), the latter being a blacktype winner in Hong Kong.

The Group 3 C L Weld Park Stakes winner and Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes-placed Ugo Fire (Bluebird) appears under the third generation of the pedigree, whereas the Group/Grade 1-scorers Pearly Shells (Efisio) and Frenchpark (Fools Holme) plus the high-class filly Pearls Galore (Invincible Spirit), are under the fourth.
