THE Cork Summer Show hosted the Horse Sport Ireland Studbook Series final on Sunday. Just 10 combinations contested the seven-year-old final and from those just two double clears were delivered.

Leading the victory lap on this occasion was Tomas Doyle and Monbeg Conspiracy when they were fastest of those in a time of 46.90. Owned by Doyle’s wife Marti Rudd and bred by Kevin Fawl, the gelding is by OBOS Quality out of the Conspiracy-sired Caheradoo Donna. The day before, this combination had finished in sixth place after having one pole on the ground. This is the first win of the series for the combination.

Gemma Phelan played it safe with Baden Powell’s Curraghagraigue Camillo One and came home clear in 50.63 for second place. Bred by his owner out of the Errigal Flight mare Capponellan Lady, the gelding is by Camillo VDL.

Oliver (Jnr) Glancy and Clonterm Obolensky failed to book their place against the clock when they finished on two time faults and had to settle for third place. Owned by Glancy the gelding is by Cornet Obolensky (BWP) out of the Lux Z-sired She Has The Lux. The pair had finished fourth in Saturday’s qualifier.

Orla Queally and Miriam Queally’s Kilnamac Maud (OBOS Quality x Lux Z) were fastest of the four-faulters in the first round for eventual fourth. The mare was bred by James J Ryan. Emma O’Dwyer also had one on the ground with her own and Heather Blair’s Black Ball II for fifth place. Bred by John Kearney, the gelding is by Diamond Roller out of Veronicas Camario (Camiro De Haar Z).

Completing the top six was Gillian Bond riding her own and Margaret Bond’s Kilmountain Saphira (KMS Chicago x Womanizer), also finishing with four faults.

Six-year-olds

In the six-year-old division, 20 contested this round which was the first of the legs that was run as a jump-off. Seven made it through to the timed round where four delivered a double clear and fastest of them to take victory was Paul Beecher aboard his wife Seryna Van Kuelen’s Brogagh Darcy (Dakar VDL x Brocka Cruising Lucy), bred by John J Cummin. They posted the winning time of 45.44 seconds.

Junior rider Cian Byrne and the Andrew Byrne and Olga Doyle-owned Lunasa Cruise (Loch Cruise x Lucky Gift), bred by Michael Kenny, finished second in a time of 46.02, ahead of Tomas Doyle with Marti Rudd and his own Monbeg Sapphire (Sheikh It x Visage Vant Paradijs), bred by Brendan Doyle in 46.49. The slowest of the clears was Darragh Ryan and his own As You Want Z (Atomic D’ick x Sweet De Tourtoulou) in 47 seconds.

Five-year-olds

In the five-year olds, eight combinations from a starting field of 23 delivered double clears to share the €2,500 prize fund.
