THERE will be a two-day sales and racing festival at Baden-Baden in Iffezheim, Germany at the end of next week.

Friday’s card features Germany’s most valuable auction race and on Saturday the feature race is a prestigious event for two-year-old fillies.

Sales take place each day and there are 400 horses catalogued in total. Yearlings account for the majority of the catalogue and this section usually provides the highest prices.

Last year a yearling filly by Guiliani (Group 1 winner by Tertullian) topped the sale at €135,000 and a Sea The Stars colt foal made €105,000.

In 2020 the top price paid was €75,000 and the clearance rate was 60%. Peter Vaughan and J.D. Moore were among the Irish purchasers at that edition.

Moore’s €22,000 purchase on that occasion, a three-year-old filly named Megan, won on her debut over hurdles at Leicester within a month.

Sires represented by yearlings in next week’s catalogue include Acclamation, Adlerflug, Awtaad, Bated Breath, Best Solution, Churchill, Crystal Ocean, Dream Ahead, Gleneagles, Harry Angel, Havana Grey, Highland Reel, Nathaniel, Phoenix Of Spain, Sea The Moon, Soldier Hollow, Teofilo, Ulysses and Waldgeist.

The fillies and mares section includes daughters of Adlerflug, Almanzor, Australia, Authorized, Camelot, Danehill Dancer, Dansili, Exceed And Excel, Holy Roman Emperor, Jukebox Jury, Kingman, Lomitas, Lope De Vega, Montjeu, Night Of Thunder, Peintre Celebre, Pivotal, Sea The Moon, Shirocco, Soldier Hollow, Teofilo, Tiger Hill, Wootton Bassett and Zoffany.
