JESSICA Harrington has her powerful string in great form ahead of Sprewell’s bid for the Betfred Derby at Epsom and she sent out a 224/1 treble at this rearranged fixture as Pivotal Trigger, Queen Of Seduction and Youcrackmeup all scored for the Moone trainer.

Pivotal Trigger made a successful return to action in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Race with Shane Foley electing to make all.

The Zhang Yuesheng-owned 2/1 chance, third in a Group 3 at ParisLongchamp last autumn, kept on gamely inside the final furlong to hold off Harbour Wind by half-a-length and connections are now looking at moving him back into Stakes company.

“He’s had a good blow after that and will improve plenty. He was fresh for the first half of the race. There is an option for him Irish Derby weekend back up into group company,” said Harrington’s daughter Kate whose next duty was driving Foley to the Fairyhouse evening meeting.

Ronan Whelan benefitted from Foley’s absence aboard the Derek Gibbons-owned Queen Of Seduction who was also prominent throughout in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden.

The well-backed 4/1 (8/1 in the morning) shot had her rivals stretched early in the straight and kept on really well inside the final furlong to beat Banned by a length and three-quarters.

Galloped

“I kept it simple and she galloped all the way to the line. She’s a big filly and I’d say she’s only starting to fill into herself,” said Whelan who later doubled up on top-weight Youcrackmeup in the Racing Again June 12th Handicap.

The 14/1 chance also made most of the running in the colours of the It’s All About The Girls partnership and kept on gamely to beat Show No Fear by a length.

“The guys at home thought she wasn’t killing herself so hence the blinkers on her. She loved the ground and is a filly that will go further as well,” said Whelan before adding:

“Jessie’s horses couldn’t be in any better form. It’s great to be riding for her and the guys in there couldn’t be more helpful to me as well.”

Lyons’ season hots up with Flame

THIS meeting was rescheduled after the original (on May 8th) was called off due to waterlogging and the weather contrast couldn’t have been more extreme with the track bathed in sunshine.

The racecourse management were highly praised for the condition of the well-watered ground notably by Shane Lyons, representing his brother Ger who teamed up with champion jockey Colin Keane for a double via Spanish Flame and Star Kissed.

Spanish Flame caught the eye on debut at Leopardstown last month and justified 8/13 favouritism in the Irish EBF Median Sires Series Maiden, drawing clear in the final furlong for an impressive six lengths verdict over newcomer Oligopoly.

“Roscommon have done a fantastic job with the ground in the middle of a mini heatwave. It was on the easy side of good for the first race which he needed,” said Shane Lyons.

“I think we have a nice bunch of two-year-olds and he’s definitely one of them. I’m delighted for Vincent and Geraldine (Gaul) who come up with a good one every so often and the Chesham could be an option for Ascot.”

Star Kissed, owned and bred by Newtown Anner Stud, made a quick return in the Castlerea Handicap after a promising seasonal debut at the Curragh last Sunday and the 9/4 shot made headway on the outer early in the straight before getting well on top in the closing stages to beat Rattle And Hum by a comfortable two lengths.“We were on a hiding to nothing running her back straight away from Sunday but this was the plan the original meeting when the ground was soft. Delighted to get the win and it’s all confidence with her,” said Lyons. “She’s filling out in her frame and is from a great family but it’s all about next year and getting blacktype will be the main aim.”

Colin Keane was then flown to Fairyhouse where he later completed a treble on the day. The small aircraft took off from the racecourse.

Slattery keeps up the winning run

ALFARIDA, owned by the Eight Ball Syndicate from Tallaght, continued a good run for Andy Slattery senior and junior when edging out Master Garvey by a short-head in the Roscommon Handicap and the 5/1 winner could bid for a quick follow up at Listowel this afternoon.

“She was second in Dundalk and we were waiting on this ground for her. She’s entered at Listowel on Saturday over a mile and I’d say she probably wants a mile the way she stayed at it there. We’ll see how she is tomorrow,” said the Killenaule trainer.

Great servant

Mary Salome has proved a great servant to owner/trainer Andrew Kinirons and recorded her sixth career win at odds of 14/1 in the Roscommon Fillies Handicap.

The seven-year-old daughter of Zebedee made headway between horses to challenge a furlong out and kept on best in the closing stages under Luke McAteer, now just one away from riding out his claim, to beat Bells On Her Toes by a neck.

“She had run 47 times and never ran here. It’s a track that suits her as she is sharp away and there is a long straight. She loves a bit of hassle at the end of a race and Luke gave her a brilliant ride keeping her among horses,” said Kinirons.

“She is in foal to Equiano and that’s why she hasn’t ran recently. She is a great mare for us and a great guide at home for work. We’ll keep running away until around Galway.”
