WAYNE Lordan remains in hospital this weekend as he continues to recover from an arm injury he sustained when his mount San Antonio fell in the Irish Derby last Sunday.

His agent Ryan McElligott reported yesterday: “Wayne suffered a concussion and a nasty flesh wound around his elbow. He remains in hospital as of this morning and is still quite sore but he is comfortable and making good progress.

“Both he and [wife] Carey Ann are extremely grateful for all the support and good wishes they have received.”

On the way back from injury is top jumps rider Mark Walsh. First jockey in Ireland to champion owner J.P. McManus, Walsh endured a serious of heavy falls in the spring. He suffered damaged vertebrae at the Dublin Racing Festival and injured ribs when his mount crashed through the rails at Cheltenham. He was stood down after a heavy fall at Punchestown and has not ridden since April 28th.

Frank Berry, racing manager to McManus, told The Irish Field yesterday: “Mark is doing well and hopes to be back riding in two weeks.”
