THE annual Irish Pony Society foal show was held at Tipperary Equestrian Centre on Monday, October 30th, by kind permission of Mr Tomas Ryan and family.

There were many very high quality foals forward and the first champion came from Kildare and was the Large Breeds Champion in Tara Hudson’s Hudson’s Diamond Eclipse and in Reserve was Margaret Green’s Moonlite Fairytale.

The Leisure Horse Ireland Coloured Pony championship was next and that was taken by Sligo-based Marion Judge’s Waterglades Oh So Hans Some, with Margaret Green’s Moonlight Pretty Penny in Reserve, who had been the produce of a foster mare.

The next Championship was from the plaited section and was taken by the winner of the Barett’s Agri Show Hunter ponies, Jerry Maloney’s Barryroe Smokey, with Jerry Maloney’s Barryroe Princess Tiger, winner of the Reynelles Ponies Show Pony class, in Reserve.

There were many good quality Welsh ponies forward and the Welsh Pony and Cob Society of Ireland champion colt was P A Hard and E M Carter’s Araglen Sunshine, winner of the Kilbride Equestrian Section A Colt class, the champion filly came from the same stable and was Glynsylen Spearmint.

The Leisure Horse Ireland overall Welsh Champion was Araglen Sunshine.

The Supreme Overall Pony and Josie O’Brien Memorial Trophy was taken by the Section A, Araglen Sunshine, with the Leisure Horse Ireland Coloured Champion Oh So Hans Some in Reserve.

Many thanks to the judge Becky Walters, who had quite a hard task at hand and gave each pony plenty of time to show itself off. Many of the foals had only recently been weaned or had been competing with their dams and running free for a different competition.

It was noted that many competitors gave time to assist each other, which gave the event great ambiance.
