NEW Yorker Eleanora Kennedy has been described as the luckiest racehorse owner in Ireland and she looks set to brighten up Irish racecourses for the next few months.

Eleanora has horses in training here with Ger Lyons, Ross O’Sullivan and Willie McCreery. She spends her summers in Ireland and jetted in last week, just in time to see Warrior Brave win at Listowel in her colours.

Given that Warrior Brave had lost his 15 previous starts, it was either a brilliant bit of race-planning or another case of Eleanora being in the right place at the right time.

“That was my 12th winner in Ireland and I am just in love with these horses,” Eleanora told us this week.

Eleanora was married to Michael Kennedy, an acclaimed attorney who made his name defending political activists. “When Michael passed away [in 2016] I knew I needed another love. Owning racehorses is my new passion.”

Racing in Ireland is much more enjoyable than in the US, she says. “American racing is all business. Here, it’s about family, culture and community. I love tracks like Listowel and Gowran Park.”

Eleanora is just as comfortable at the Curragh and wouldn’t say no to a Royal Ascot runner. “I already have a dress for Royal Ascot but if I don’t have a runner there I will save the outfit for the Curragh on July 23rd when I am sponsoring a race in memory of Michael.”
