SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11TH

We are due a visit on Sunday to Ballinlough by the Irish Georgian Society so there is some last minute tidying up. I have to change a couple of light bulbs around the house and there is no doubt that the user friendliness of light-bulbs has regressed in my lifetime. Not long ago, you simply fitted a new bulb, flicked a switch and instant light was forthcoming; now there is a multitude of different fittings and sizes and many of the bulbs produce as much light for a while as you would get from striking a match.
