Trainer Jim Tormey passes away

TRAINER Jimmy Tormey died peacefully this week in Tullamore’s Midland Regional Hospital. From Mullingar, Co Westmeath, Jimmy held a licence for 47 years and, assisted by his brother Tommy, he trained General Symmons (Paddy Kiely) to finish third in the English National and he won the national trial at Punchestown. He recorded 21 wins with El Kekni and 18 with Grand Visior. He is survived by his wife Pauline, sons Brian and Paul, and daughters Carol and Una. He is reposing in Shaw’s Funeral Home in Mullingar today (Saturday) from 3pm to 5pm, with removal to St Nicholas’ Church in Multyfarnham arriving at 5.30pm. The funeral mass is on Sunday at 12.30pm followed by burial in The Rock Cemetery. The family has asked that donations, in lieu of flowers, to be sent to North Westmeath Hospice.
