IT hardly needs endorsement. A collection of the musings of a man who was racing journalist of the year not once, not twice but three times is surely recommendation enough. He is loved by many who eagerly anticipate his writing. He is missed too by many who do not see him on his weekly television racing spot.

There are many good journalists in racing and just a handful that are standouts. It is fair to say that Alastair Down stands out. His insight and quick wit have combined to produce some of the best examples of race writing for some 30 years now. Consequently this volume of his output extends to nearly 300 pages. You won’t spend £20 more wisely.
