A Czech-led syndicate of international show jumpers has shelled out £30,000 for a three-parts brother to the Irish Sport Horse MHS Going Global.

The colt foal, owned by Greg Broderick, was put up for auction at Bolesworth International Show tonight and all of the proceeds will go to two charities, The Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation and Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin.

Th foal was purchased by Emma De Moussac from the Czech Republic, as part of a syndicate of her friends that also includes Lorenzo De Luca from Italy and Vincent Voorn, son of Albert Voorn.

The colt foal is out of Broderick’s Ballypatrick Flight, who is a half-sister to MHS Going Global. The foal is by Quidam Junior, sire of MHS Going Global.

The bay colt foal's dam, Ballypatrick Flight, is a 2002 mare bred by the late Mrs Ita Brennan in Co Kilkenny and was a national champion as a seven-year-old.

The foal is by Quidam Junior, whose son MHS Going Global was on the winning Aga Khan Nations Cup team at Dublin 2015 and has just been named as Ireland’s sole show jumper to compete at Rio 2016.

The foal’s half-brother, a bay colt by Elvis Ter Putte, was sold at the Irish Breeders Classic/Goresbridge Select Sale of Show Jumpers in Barnadown last year for the top price of €22,000.

A CRACKING FOAL

Speaking to The Irish Field before the auction, Greg Broderick expressed the hope that the foal would do very well for the two chosen charities – the Jack and Jill Foundation and Crumlin Hospital for Sick Children.

Broderick (30) said: “I hope the foal will do very well. We bred him at home. I had a good chat with a girl from Unicef and I was planning over the last 12 months to do something nice for charity.

“After Going Global got picked for the Olympics, I just thought with the foal being a three-parts brother to him because he’s out of Going Global’s half-sister Ballypatrick Flight (by Laughton’s Flight). So we covered the Laughton’s Flight mare with Quidam Junior, the sire of Going Global and we ended up with a colt foal that is a three-quarter brother to him.

“I just thought that under the circumstances with so much news and media around the Irish team over the St Gallen Nations Cup win, I thought there will never be a time when the foal could possibly make more money so I just thought it would be a nice gesture to donate the foal to charity.

“He’s actually a cracking foal when you see him at home in the field, he’s real playful and very active, he’d remind you of a foal that’s going to jump but of course there is no guarantees with foals but I do think he should do really well on the night and it’s nice. It gives you a nice feeling and it’s nice to give something back,” said the Co Tipperary rider.

THE CHARITIES

Founded by Jonathan Irwin, the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation provides direct funding to families of children with brain damage up to the age of four who suffer severe intellectual and physical developmental delay, enabling them to purchase home respite care. It also provides end of life care to all children up to the age of four.

Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin in Dublin is Ireland's largest paediatric hospital and has been caring for Ireland's sick children since 1956. It has almost 1,200 staff and 243 beds, all dedicated to the care of children.
