THE battle for the top spot on the Horseware/TRM Grand Prix league leaderboard intensified last Sunday when Vincent Byrne took the honours in the Grand Prix at Charleville Show. The win places Byrne just a point behind his closest rival, fellow Kilkenny rider Ger O’ Neill. Riding Mr Rockefeller, Byrne took home the lion’s share of €5,000 in the in the Dicks Supervalu Charleville-sponsored class.

Delighted with the win, Byrne said: “It was a very competitive class and there was no let up in the jump-off. The pressure was on from the start as Liam had set a fast time to beat with his first horse. Liam got caught out by the last fence with his second horse and this was easily done as it was a tricky turn and one of the biggest fences on the course.
