FLAT jockey Sammy Jo Bell has been nominated for the Sky Sports sportswoman of the month award, for which public voting ends tomorrow evening. She is one of six contenders who include England’s hockey goalkeeper Maddie Hinch.

Co Antrim-born Sammy Jo recorded 11 wins in June (from 52 rides), the bulk of which were for her boss, Malton trainer Richard Fahey. She has also partnered a large number of placed horses during the same period and, on Tuesday, finished second in an extended mile handicap at Hamilton on Penelope Pitstop who is trained by Maralin-based Lee Smyth.
