THE point-to-point scene is all the poorer following the death last Friday week of Wilfie (Robert Wilfred) Mulholland who was described as a typical old-school points man and a good judge of form.

Living in Ballyclare, Wilfie used to attend point-to-points throughout the country with Sammy Allen and crew and, while he would think nothing of going all the way to Kinsale, he kept his punting when he got there to fivers. A native of Kings Moss, near Glengormley, he attended his first point-to-point, at the old Lisnalinchy course, at the age of 15 and rode out for fun with the late Willie Rooney.
