COLERAINE-born Jody McGarvey, who also rode a winner for Charles Byrnes at Kilbeggan on Monday, was one of two Northern jockeys on the mark on the opening evening of Down Royal’s successful Summer Festival last Friday.

He teamed up with Kildare trainer Denis Cullen to land the Sean Graham Bookmakers Handicap Hurdle with the Glending Syndicate’s May Dullea while Deckie Lavery landed the Quilter Cheviot INH Flat Race on the odds-on favourite Prickly, trained by Edward O’Grady for Simon Davis.
