TEMPLEPATRICK handler Warren Ewing saddled his first winner of the season at Knockinroe last Sunday when on her fifth start, her second this term, Hawthorn Cottage won the opening four-year-old mares’ maiden at the Suir Vale Harriers’ fixture.

Ridden by Mark O’Hare, as she had been when third at Dromahane, the Gold Well bay was bred by Roy Wilson out of the Religiously mare Miss Kilkeel who won over hurdles and was placed over fences. She, in turn, was the sole foal out of the flat winner Shakiyka. Since producing Sunday’s winner, Miss Kilkeel had just the one recorded produce, a 2015 Carlotamix colt who was sold through Callie Berry by John Travers to Ian Ferguson at that’s year National Hunt Foal Sale at Tattersalls.
