THE end of an era has dawned at The Glebe House Stud with Jeremy Maxwell’s announcement that he will no longer stand stallions following the death of Tikkanen who, apart from a brief sojourn in England, was based at the Ballee farm since late 2003.

“It’s a bit sad, as I’m about 40 years in the business,” said Jeremy earlier this week. “However, I can’t afford to buy the quality of horse I’d like to stand and expect that he would get the patronage he’d deserve. It’s very difficult for small, independent studs these days to give a six-figure sum for a stallion and then find it hard to attract mares. That is particularly so up here with so many mares going south.”
