MY Lovely Horse Rescue has issued a plea for funding from the public after it rescued a young cob whose head and nose were left with festering open wounds when his too-small headcollar became embedded in his flesh.

The feral youngster was dumped in the fields at Fonthill, Clondalkin, Dublin, as a foal and he grew too big for his headcollar, which became embedded in his head.

The rescue operation took several attempts and required the help of a Dublin Zoo handler, Gerry Creighton, and a tranquiliser gun.

The cob, now named after Gerry Creighton, is now in safe hands at the rescue's base in .
