NEWSPAPEROFRECORD suffered a shock defeat on her return in the Grade 3 Edgewood Stakes at Churchill Downs on Friday.

Chad Brown’s charge heads the ante-post market for the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot after running out a six-and-three-quarter-length winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies’ Turf last November.

That win took her unbeaten record to three races and the Lope De Vega filly was expected to add to that tally as she made her seasonal bow over an extended mile.

Newspaperofrecord broke smartly under Irad Ortiz and was soon bowling along in front, appearing to have the race under control turning for home.

However, Concrete Rose emerged from the pack and began to hunt down the hot-favourite, who had no response when passed and had to settle for second.
