DRUMFAD Bay sprang a 10/1 surprise when taking the Listed Irish Stallion Farms EBF Cairn Rouge Stakes at Killarney on Monday evening, winning the one-mile feature by a length and a half from Music Box (11/2).

The Jessica Harrington-trained three-year-old was ridden by Colm O'Donoghue.

Asking, stable companion of the runner-up and partnered by Ana O'Brien, was sent off the 2/1 favourite but finished only seventh.

The odds-on favourite did win the opening race on the card, however, and Lethal Steps (8/15) looks set for a step up in grade after this six-length score in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Race, also over a mile.

The first-crop son of sprint ace Lethal Force is now unbeaten in two starts. He is trained by Ger Lyons and was ridden by Colin Keane.
