LAURENS gave trainer Karl Burke and jockey P.J. McDonald their first taste of classic success with a determined victory in the Group 1 Prix de Diane Longines at Chantilly.

Having rounded off her juvenile campaign with a Group 1 triumph in the Fillies' Mile at Newmarket, the daughter of Siyouni returned to that venue to finish second in last month's 1000 Guineas.

She doubled her top-level tally when going one better in the Prix Saint-Alary at Longchamp three weeks ago and crossed the Channel once more for a tilt at France's equivalent of the Oaks, though run at 10 and a half furlongs.

Laurens broke smartly from her wide berth in stall 12 and although she was trapped wide throughout, she was still travelling strongly at the top of the home straight.

Former jumps jockey McDonald had to get to work with two furlongs to run, but Laurens answered his every call to see off all comers and claim a popular success, by a neck.

Musis Amica finished strongly to grab the runners-up spot, a nose ahead of Homerique, with Aidan O'Brien's Happily another head back in fourth and With You a nose away in fifth.
