THE Tartan Spartan is set for a tilt at the Irish St Leger after producing a career-best performance to lift Her Majesty's Plate at Down Royal.

Pat Shanahan's colt was only fifth on his previous couple of outings, both at this listed level, but bounced back here and was the only one to serve it up to the positively-ridden Grandee two furlongs out.
