RECENTLY crowned US Horse of the Year Gun Runner ended his racing career in tremendous style with a dominant victory in the $16 million Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes at Gulfstream Park.

The Steve Asmussen-trained five-year-old broke well under jockey Florent Geroux, was always prominent, fought off West Coast in the straight and went clear. There was daylight back to the rest of the field.

English raider Toast Of New York ran just off the pace in the early stages of the race but dropped back to finish well-beaten.

Gun Runner, a son of Candy Ride, is now the second highest earner in US racing history. He is out of a Grade 2-winning Giant's Causeway half-sister to champion Saint Liam.

He will now move to Three Chimneys Farm in Kentucky to begin his stallion career.
