IN A reflection of the yearling sales season that preceded it, the Goffs November Foal Sale got off to a decidedly mixed start today where the top price of €125,000 far exceeded the highest price paid on the corresponding day last year but otherwise the figures were indicative of a very selective market.

Of the 244 horses offered there was 145 sold for a turnover of just under €2.7 million which represented a 34% decline on last year. The average of €18,517 was down by 13% and the median fell by nine points to €15,000. The clearance rate for the day dropped from 78% to 59%.
