THE first of three planned meetings at Boulta in two months took place at Gerard Mulcahy’s schooling grounds on Sunday in the form of the annual Clonmult/Dungourney fixture. Paul O’Flynn sent out his first winner of the campaign when newcomer West Cork Wildway (4/1 - 5/4) justified strong market support in the second division of the Hickey Bros Precast four-year-old geldings’ maiden.

One of two races in which there were two fences omitted due to the low-lying sun, this event was run at a quite consistent pace with debutants Road Frontage and Game Present taking the nine runners along as West Cork Wildway occupied a prominent posse under Garry Noonan in third spot. The son of Yeats moved second behind Game Tree before three-out and he took the measure of Paul Power’s promising charge at the final fence to score by four lengths, much to the dismay of the quarter of bookmakers present. Eoulalyo benefited from the final fence departure of Concrete King, who was lying some five lengths adrift of the two principals at the time, to return a further eight lengths in arrears in third spot.
