THE broadcasting of the aftermath to the Doncaster St Leger where Channel 4 cameras followed the two jockeys into the weigh room undoubtedly proved good drama for TV viewers.

Although it was good television, it was subsequently criticised by jockeys’ representatives as Andrea Atzeni’s immediate reaction and disappointment was seen by all. Of course there are many sporting moments hidden away behind closed doors that we would have loved to have seen. Wouldn’t we love to have had footage of Alex Ferguson hurling the hairdryer at Beckham or Jackie Tyrrell’s stirring half time Kilkenny All-Ireland speech, but some things remain private and there should be a right to close the door.
