RACHAEL Blackmore successfully turned her attentions to the flat as she recorded a double which concluded with a 20/1 triumph for Hit The Rocks in the Strand Inn Dunmore Handicap. This Edmond Kent-owned, trained and bred son of Fast Company came here off several unplaced runs but had showed up well in a couple of maidens earlier in the season and was restored to that form. Hit The Rocks made short work of his rivals when getting to the front in the last furlong as he came home with six and a half lengths to spare over Aasleagh Fawn. Even though things hadn’t gone to plan on his last few runs, Hit The Rocks is well thought of by his trainer who feels that he could ultimately make up into a smart dual-purpose type.

Rachael Blackmore was earlier successful on Act Of God in the Dan Cowman Memorial Maiden where the 9/10 favourite built on a very creditable ninth to Great White Shark in the amateur riders’ handicap on the opening night of the Galway Festival. The Brian Comer-owned winner, who won over hurdles at this track in May, travelled nicely and took control inside the last quarter-of-a-mile to register a clear-cut success over Convara. Edward O’Grady’s charge may stick to the flat for another run before trying his hand back over hurdles.
