THE two-day Osarus Yearling Sale concluded on Thursday with a set of figures down on last year. A larger catalogue of yearlings appeared to dilute the trade and the 216 lots sold was an increase in numbers, but resulted in a fall in turnover, average and median.

Last year’s top price at the sale was eclipsed on a number of occasions and competition for the better quality lots was keen. Overseas participation was not as strong as usual, though Con Marnane was one of the busiest buyers at the sale, purchasing a total of 17 lots. Another significant feature of the sale was the fact that only two of the 11 lots sold for €50,000 or more were colts.
