THE opening maiden on the card looked the most interesting race of the day and it delivered a good finish between two smart-looking colts from stables who enjoyed excellent weekends and it was Joseph O’Brien’s Toshizou who came out on top in the Camas Park Stud Irish EBF Maiden over an extended seven furlongs.

This Galileo colt was a big eyecatcher when third to Masen on his debut at Leopardstown two months ago and Declan McDonogh’s mount, who is owned by Toshihiro Matsumoto, justified 10/11 favouritism to build on that display. However, he only got home by a head from the promising Dermot Weld newcomer Baseman who had attracted plenty of support prior to missing a couple of recent engagements.
