CONTRARY to what racing presenter Matt Chapman, for one, maintains, course records are not regularly broken by ordinary horses, thus somehow rendering the very concept of time analysis redundant. Course records are, however, reliant on context, and very fast conditions can occasionally see merely useful performers set new bests.
What does not happen is that such types break course records by wide margins at major racecourses on ground that was both officially and in actuality softer than good. Only very good horses can do that, and Cyrname undoubtedly showed he is a very good horse at Ascot last Saturday.
