JUST before Too Darn Hot ‘scorched’ to the top of the Cartier Awards, it was announced that his racing career, well and truly back on track with his Sussex Stakes win, had come to an end. It came less than a week after another of the top-rated three-year-olds, Calyx, had also been retired through injury.

It’s been a difficult season for those trying to put a shape on the ratings for the 2019 crop of three-year-olds, especially those racing from a mile to a mile and a half. Who’s the best? Have we a definite leader of the crop?
