American players Jim de Angelis, Liz Brayboy and Leighton Jordon were joined by newcomer Stephanie Montine  and chef d’equipe Eileen Flint.

Irish representatives Siobhan Herbst, Michael Herbst and Dennis Connolly had a blistering start, sweeping into the game, potting shots and holding the advantage until the third chukka. However Jim de Angelis, an artist in power play, used his accuracy to direct long range missiles from behind the 25-yard line, adding two points each time. The four USA players were on a roll. Lapses of discipline lapses undermined the Irish, with five goals missed by a whisker and some silly infringements. A final burst on the goal gave the Yale team the win 13 to 9.
