THE world famous Melbourne Cup is known as ‘the race that stops a nation’. What about Gowran Park’s wonderful take on this, staging as they do ‘the race that stops a county’? There is no more apt slogan to describe the event.
Racing enthusiasts from all over Ireland will descend on Gowran Park for the time-honoured €100,000 Goffs Thyestes Chase on Thursday, January 24th. One of the flagship National Hunt meetings of the Irish racing calendar, Goffs Thyestes Day is widely recognised as one of the best afternoon’s racing during the National Hunt season. Yesterday its significance was underlined when Ruby Walsh, Patrick Mullins and Tony Mullins joined an appreciative audience at the track to launch this year’s renewal of the race.
