ONE of the most significant people in racing was honoured with an award last Saturday night, one which he accepted in his own typically modest way. The occasion was the annual point-to-point awards, and yet this man never rode in a race of any kind.

Even so, his name is as – and more – familiar to everyone in the sport as any of the men and women who sit astride a saddle and compete. Dr Adrian McGoldrick is a man at the heart of Irish racing, and he gives his heart to the sport too.
