Alenquer: Progressed into a high-class middle-distance performer last year when posting Group 3 and Group 2 wins at 10 furlongs and 12 furlongs as well as reaching the frame twice at the highest level. A comeback success over Lord North at Lingfield was most encouraging and he was a close sixth in top company in Dubai two months ago. Every chance.

Bear Story: Likeable and consistent type who won at Group 3 level last term and lines up off three placed runs behind Layfayette this season, getting closer to that rival on each occasion. Should run his usual solid race.

Broome: Lost out by just a short head in this race last year before claiming a mile-and-a-half Group 1 success in France and also ran a tremendous second in the Breeders Cup Turf. Lacks a recent run this season.

Helvic Dream: Produced one of the stories of last season when defeating Broome by a short head to win this race. Finished an encouraging fifth in the Mooresbridge Stakes on his first run since then a few weeks ago and is entitled to due consideration especially if the ground eases over the weekend.

High Definition: Former Beresford Stakes winner but is without a win in six starts since that Group 2. Returned with a pleasing second in the Alleged Stakes last month but finished a little further behind Layfayette in the Mooresbridge and lines up with plenty to prove.

Lord North: Top class international middle-distance runner and is chasing a fourth Group 1 success after dead-heating with Panthalassa in the Group 1 Dubai Turf in Meydan two months ago. Ground versatile and boasts impeccable credentials.

Mac Swiney: Won last year’s Irish 2000 Guineas on soft ground and came right back to form at the end of the season when third in the British Champion Stakes. Could be dangerous on his first run since December.

State Of Rest: Admirable international performer who has won Group 1 events in three different countries on his last three starts. Looks to have every chance as he returns to domestic action and should be all the better for his comeback in the Prix Ganay earlier this month. Another bold showing will be forthcoming.

Conclusion

A fine edition of this race with over half the field boasting previous wins at this level. Lord North looked at least as good as ever when dead-heating for victory in the Dubai Turf two months ago and he is marginally preferred to the chief home hope State Of Rest who is chasing a top level four-timer.
