A SLIGHTLY reduced catalogue for the first day of the 2017 Tattersalls December Foal Sale was of no consequence when the day’s takings were tallied. A record turnover for day one was 37% ahead of the aggregate for last year’s opener, while the 35% average increase outstripped the median rise of 25%.

The previous highest price for a day one foal was matched when Gay O’Callaghan’s Yeomanstown Stud paid 160,000gns for a son of Farhh, the first foal of the winning Nayef mare Radhaadh who was bought from Shadwell on the same ring at last year’s July Sale for 55,000gns. Her dam is a half-sister to the Hardwicke Stakes winner Mahool. He was one of two foals bought by Yeomanstown on the day.
