Veteran horseman Hugh Leonard urged breeders and producers to stick to the traditional Irish-bred horse and produce rideable horses so much in demand in the key middle market.
The bottom has well and truly fallen out of the Connemara pony foal market and government schemes like REPS and Disadvantaged Area Aid are partly to blame, according to breeders in the west.
