A NEW group - known in traditional breeding circles as the ‘super six’ - is due to meet in the next 10 days with the ultimate aim of protecting and preserving Ireland’s small pool of remaining top sport horse mares.

Chairman of the Traditional Irish Horse Association, Hugh Leonard, told The Irish Field: “Three people from our Association - Joan Bateman, Chris Ryan and Seamus Davis - will be joining with three others from Horse Sport Ireland’s breeding sub-board - Sligo breeder Neil Henry, Barbara Hatton of Slyguff Stud and Kells veterinary surgeon David McCann.
