THE name Widger has long been synonymous with success in the horse world and at Wexford Equestrian on Wednesday the family recorded another victory when Jess Widger landed the QHP Equestrian event pony class on her mother Laura’s Grantstown Coat Of Many Colours.

Fourteen-year-old Jess, who was on a half-day from the Ursuline Waterford, recorded an excellent score of 215 points on the five-year-old mare who is by the Connemara stallion General Humbert. The bay was bred by the rider’s grandfather, Tosh Widger, out of the Fujiwara mare Night Angel who jumped to Grade C herself and was a full-sister to Street Angel who introduced many members of the Widger family, and then the Whitakers, to top-class pony jumping.
