ONLY five horses contested the thoroughbred class at Wexford Equestrian on Wednesday but organisers Orla Roche and husband Pat Peare were delighted with the quality of the five geldings forward as the class ran for the first time with champion National Hunt trainer Willie Mullins as sponsor.

Izzy Cranston-Leadbitter led after dressage with Destination Street (54.5) but Thomas Byrne’s five-year-old Thewayyouare gelding, who ran as recently as March 11th (when he pulled up for the second time in his two-race point-to-point career) scored poorly in the jumping phase and, with a fence down, finished second on 177.5.
