Red Verdon has been ruled out of Saturday's Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster following an unsatisfactory workout on Wednesday morning.

Following hugely impressive victories at Chester and Haydock in May, the three-year-old was supplemented for the Investec Derby at Epsom and was far from disgraced in finishing sixth in the premier classic.

He subsequently took fourth in the Irish Derby before filling the runner-up spot in the Grand Prix de Paris, but he will not be lining up on Town Moor.

Trainer Ed Dunlop tweeted: "Sadly Red Verdon won't be running in the St Leger on Saturday. We were not happy enough with him after his blow out this morning."
