Performance Sale: Frank Casey’s four-year-old gelding by OBOS Quality (dam not recorded) €15,000.
NEXT week marks the opening of the country’s premier three-year-old sales, with Cavan kicking off the proceedings on Tuesday. Staged as a forerunner to Wednesday’s performance renewal, and taking place two weeks later than in previous years, the premier catalogue offers 68 pre-selected lots, several of which will have lined up at the RDS this week.
It comes as no surprise to note that the two most influential sires of 2022 head the stallion lists in both sectors. In the premier selection, Sligo Candy Boy has a significant 15 progeny on offer, five more than the newcomer Vivant Van de Heffinck. Such is their popularity, the same duo also top Wednesday’s tables, with the former represented by nine offspring and the latter by five.
As usual, the performance sale offers a broad mix of horses, including numerous horses with form, and a good selection of Connemaras in the pony sector.
PREMIER THREE-YEAR-OLDS
The 68 lots will showcase during the day on Tuesday, before the auction begins at 4pm. The catalogue features a number of very well-related individuals, and while show jumping breeding is dominant, there are also many with dual-purpose bloodlines.
