ADAM Marcus sent out his first classic winner when Missisippi Burning served up a 22/1 shock in the World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas at Kenilworth last Saturday despite never having been tried beyond six furlongs.
Marcus, 30, is the son of Basil Marcus who won the Derrinstown Derby Trial on Anvari in 1990, as well as that season’s Pretty Polly Stakes on Oaks runner-up Game Plan, before returning to South Africa to start training. He handed over his Milnerton yard to his son seven years ago after a brief stint in Singapore.
