MANY more people are talking about sectionals these days, including those – like one-time editor of the Racing Post Bruce Millington – who do not see their worth. It can be imagined that the team at Ballydoyle are in the other camp (as am I!) given remarks after the success of Ten Sovereigns in the Darley July Cup at Newmarket on Saturday.

Asked on Racing TV about the turn-around in the colt’s form from his defeat in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, trainer Aidan O’Brien revealed that Ten Sovereigns had done some highly impressive work in recent weeks, including one gallop in which he ran “12.0s for a furlong then four 11.0s in a row”.
