RACING in Britain in the last week was larger on quantity than quality, but there were still some interesting performances on the clock.

The Northumberland Plate meeting on the all-weather at Newcastle saw Who Dares Wins capture the big race, but in a time 0.17s (about a length) slower than Carnwennan managed in the consolation Vase despite carrying 2lbs more and being just a four-year-old. This results in timefigures of 94 and 100 respectively for the two winners.
