ONE of the best things about this time of the year is trying to spot which of the youngsters running in minor events and maidens could be ‘The Next Big Thing’, or at least above the ordinary.

The likeliest candidate from the last week looks to be the William Haggas-trained Skardu, a son of Shamardal, who was friendless in the market before storming through to success in a maiden at Newmarket on Friday week.
