THE form of the classic generation took a few knocks in the week gone past – notably through the defeats of Without Parole and Gustav Klimt in the Sussex Stakes – but Deauville on Sunday was the scene for a three-year-old one-two in one of Europe’s great sprints, the Prix Maurice de Gheest.

The race is at the top end of the sprint distance range at 1,300 metres (just under 6.5 furlongs) and it remains to be seen how this year’s form ties in with races at longer and shorter. But the winner Polydream looks a high-class filly for sure.
