DAY one of Royal Ascot started on surprisingly quick ground considering the incessant rain in many parts of Britain, with the opening Queen Anne Stakes the fourth fastest this century (and the majority of the others took place on ground firmer than good).

That soon changed, as the rains came again, especially for the last two races, with Addeybb’s win in the concluding Wolferton Stakes probably taking place on good to soft (not soft as officially). The remaining action at Royal Ascot will be wrapped up in next week’s Time Will Tell, incidentally.
